Esports broadcasting happens almost entirely through live streaming rather than traditional television, and knowing where to look depends mostly on which game you’re following. This page covers the general landscape of where esports matches get broadcast.

Official league and tournament channels

The most reliable place to watch any major match is the official channel of the league or tournament organizer itself. Riot Games broadcasts League of Legends esports (including Worlds and MSI) through its official LoL Esports channels, Valve and tournament organizers broadcast Dota 2’s International and other major events, and CS2 tournament organizers (ESL, BLAST and others) stream their events through official tournament channels. These official broadcasts typically include professional commentary, analyst desks and instant replays, and they’re the version most viewers default to for major events.

Streaming platforms

Most official esports broadcasts are hosted on major live-streaming platforms rather than the organizer’s own infrastructure — the same general platforms used for game streaming broadly. Tournament organizers frequently also stream in multiple languages simultaneously through separate co-streams or partner channels, which can be worth checking if you prefer commentary in a specific language.

Co-streams and creator coverage

Beyond official broadcasts, many events are also “co-streamed” by content creators and former professional players who add their own commentary alongside the official feed (sometimes with a short broadcast delay). These co-streams can offer a different analytical perspective, particularly from creators with playing experience in the specific title, though the official broadcast remains the primary and most complete source for a given match.

Game-specific viewing notes

CS2 broadcasts are typically available through the tournament organizer’s official channel, with HLTV.org also linking directly to official streams and providing schedules so you know when a match is starting. League of Legends matches run through the official LoL Esports channels for each region and international event. Dota 2 and Valorant follow a similar pattern, with official tournament and league channels serving as the primary source, supplemented by community co-streams during major events.

A note on legitimate viewing

Stick to official broadcasts and their authorized co-stream partners. Unofficial or unauthorized streams are often lower quality, unreliable, and can carry real security risks — there’s no need to look beyond the legitimate sources named here to follow any major esports event live.
