Teemo, the Swift Scout, is one of League of Legends’ most polarizing champions - beloved by the players who main him and dreaded by nearly everyone who has to lane against him. His combination of stealth, ranged poke, and persistent traps make him one of the most frustrating lane bullies in the game to play against.

Role and class

Teemo functions as a ranged skirmisher in the top lane, closer to a marksman in how he deals damage than a traditional melee bruiser. He’s built to harass from a distance, stay hidden when it matters, and wear opponents down with poke rather than trading blows directly.

Core kit overview

Teemo’s passive grants him permanent stealth while standing still and not near enemies, letting him vanish from a fight, set up an ambush, or simply farm safely out of sight. His blinding dart applies a debuff that causes the target’s next few basic attacks to miss entirely, a powerful tool for shutting down auto-attack-reliant champions in a duel. He also has a passive-and-active move-speed boost that helps him kite in fights or simply outrun a gank. His signature ability is a poison dart that deals immediate damage and applies a damage-over-time effect, his main source of ranged poke. His ultimate lets him plant invisible mushrooms around the map that explode when an enemy steps near them, dealing damage and applying a slow - a tool that turns entire sections of the map into a minefield and provides constant vision and area denial even when he’s not present.

Strengths and weaknesses

Teemo’s biggest strength is his sheer ability to frustrate and control space - his mushrooms deny vision and punish careless movement across the map, and his blind can completely neutralize a champion who relies on basic attacks to fight. His stealth passive also gives him strong scouting and ambush potential that few other laners have.

His main weakness is a very low health pool and limited ways to survive if he’s caught out of position - once he’s engaged on directly, especially by a diving melee champion, he has few tools to disengage safely. He also has relatively low damage output against high-health targets in extended fights compared to other ranged champions.

How he’s typically played

Teemo is played almost exclusively in the top lane, poking with his darts and blind while planting mushrooms around key jungle paths and objectives to deny vision and information to the enemy team. His value extends beyond his own lane thanks to the persistent map control his mushrooms provide throughout the game.

Common matchups and synergies

Against melee champions who depend on getting into range to trade, Teemo’s blind and kiting potential make for a difficult, frustrating matchup in his favor. Against other ranged poke champions or those with gap-closers and crowd control, he has a harder time controlling the lane safely. He pairs well with junglers who benefit from strong vision denial around key objectives, since his mushrooms can quietly control key areas of the map for the rest of the game.
