Vi is Piltover’s hard-hitting enforcer, and one of League of Legends’ most straightforward answers to “who do I pick if I just want to punch someone until they’re dead.” She’s a jungler built around picking a single target, locking them down, and dishing out sustained damage before her opponent’s team can peel for them - a simple, satisfying game plan that’s made her a consistently popular pick since her release.

Role and class

Vi is a diving jungle fighter, sitting closer to the assassin end of the fighter spectrum than a bruiser like Darius. Her whole kit is oriented around finding an isolated target - usually a squishy mage or marksman - and closing the gap before they can react, rather than slowly wearing down a whole team from the front line.

Core kit overview

Vi’s identity runs through her charge-up dash, a channelled gap-closer that gets stronger the longer she holds it and knocks aside anyone she runs through on the way to her real target. Landing it on the champion she’s aiming for is what turns her from a jungler on the map into a real threat in a fight. Her passive builds toward bonus damage against tanky targets over the course of a fight, which is what lets her duel through high-health opponents rather than bouncing off them. She also has a short-range punch that briefly reveals and slows an enemy, useful for both engaging and finishing a chase, and a wave-clear tool that helps her jungle efficiently between ganks. Her ultimate is a long-range dash that knocks the target airborne and drags them with her, letting her pull a priority target straight out of their backline and into her own team.

Strengths and weaknesses

Vi’s biggest strength is her ability to single out one champion and make their game miserable - once she’s locked onto a target with her dash or ultimate, they often can’t escape without help, and her tankiness lets her survive the return damage long enough to finish the job. She’s also a strong early-game ganker thanks to that dash’s reliability as a gap-closer.

Her main weakness is that she’s fairly one-dimensional: if her engage tools are down or she misses her dash, she has limited ways to contribute to a fight, and she can be kited by champions with strong disengage or crowd control of their own. She also falls off somewhat in the late game compared to junglers who scale into a stronger teamfighting presence.

How she’s typically played

Vi is played almost exclusively in the jungle, prioritizing early ganks on lanes she can set up a kill in and looking to snowball an early lead into pressure across the map. As the game progresses, her job shifts toward diving straight for the enemy’s most dangerous damage dealer in every fight rather than trying to fight from the front.

Common matchups and synergies

Against champions without reliable escapes or crowd-control immunity, Vi is difficult to deal with once she’s committed her dash. Against high-mobility champions who can dodge or block her engage, she struggles to lock down a kill and can find herself exposed after whiffing her cooldowns. She pairs well with teammates who can follow up hard crowd control after she’s isolated a target, since her own kit is about setting up the kill rather than finishing it alone.
