Melissa is a marksman built around an unusual companion mechanic — a large stitched teddy bear that fights alongside her and can be deployed to protect her from incoming damage. That gives her a very different feel from most marksmen, who rely purely on kiting and positioning to stay alive, since Melissa has an active defensive tool built directly into her kit. Players who like the marksman fantasy but want more built-in survivability tend to find her appealing.

Role and playstyle

Melissa is played as a farming marksman in the early game like most of her class, building up core items while avoiding unnecessary risk in lane. What sets her apart is her ability to summon her teddy bear companion as a shield that can block incoming attacks, giving her a genuine defensive cooldown most marksmen don’t have. She also has tools that restrict enemy movement, functioning almost like a light control mage bolted onto a marksman’s damage profile, which lets her both peel for herself and lock down a target she’s focusing.

Strengths

Melissa’s built-in survivability is her clearest advantage — the teddy bear shield gives her a way to tank an engage or a burst combo that would delete most other marksmen outright, buying time for her team to respond or for her to reposition. Her movement-restricting tools also add a layer of self-peel and lockdown that most marksmen lack, letting her both punish overextended enemies and protect herself without relying entirely on teammates for that function.

Weaknesses

The tradeoff for that extra utility is that Melissa’s raw damage output and mobility are generally more modest than marksmen who dedicate their entire kit to pure damage scaling. She also depends on her defensive cooldown being available at the right moment — once the teddy bear shield is used or destroyed, she reverts to the same fragility as any other marksman caught out of position. Enemies who play around her cooldowns rather than engaging into them can neutralize a lot of her defensive advantage.

Build direction

Melissa’s itemization follows the standard marksman path of early sustain and attack speed transitioning into a core of physical damage and critical strike, but her built-in defensive tool means she can afford to lean slightly more aggressively into damage items than marksmen who need more defensive itemization to survive. Situational defensive items are still worth adapting in against heavy burst or crowd-control-focused enemy compositions, since her shield alone won’t always be enough to offset a well-timed dive.
