Wanwan breaks the usual marksman mold: instead of standing at a safe distance and relying on steady auto-attacks, she fights with a pair of blades and darts that bounce between targets, and she moves around the battlefield with a mobility kit most marksmen simply don’t have. She’s popular with players who find traditional backline marksmen too passive and want a carry hero that can actively dictate a fight rather than just react to it.
Role and playstyle
Wanwan is still a core farming marksman in terms of build and macro role — she needs gold and levels like any carry — but her micro playstyle looks more like a skirmisher. Her kit centers on darts that ricochet off one target onto others nearby, rewarding good positioning against grouped enemies, combined with dashes that let her weave in and out of melee range rather than staying locked to maximum attack distance. This makes her damage output heavily dependent on landing her skill combo correctly rather than simply right-clicking from a safe spot, and it gives her tools to both engage and disengage that most marksmen have to build into their items instead of getting for free in their kit.
Strengths
Her biggest strength is self-sufficiency. Where most marksmen need a support or tank clearing a path and peeling for them, Wanwan’s own mobility lets her create angles, escape ganks, and reposition mid-fight largely on her own. Her ricochet mechanic also gives her strong damage potential against clustered enemies, making her a genuine threat in chaotic team fights rather than just a single-target damage dealer.
Weaknesses
That independence comes with a steep learning curve. Wanwan’s damage is heavily combo-dependent, and whiffing her key mobility or damage skills leaves her doing far less than a simpler marksman would in the same situation. She’s also still fundamentally fragile — her mobility helps her avoid damage, but she can’t tank a mistake the way a bruiser can, and a well-timed crowd control effect can strip away her escape tools entirely and leave her exposed.
Build direction
Wanwan’s itemization generally follows the same physical damage and attack speed direction as other marksmen, since her core damage still comes from her weapons and auto-attacks between skill uses. Early items tend to prioritize attack speed and sustain to support safe farming, with cooldown reduction and mobility-adjacent stats becoming more valuable than on a typical marksman since she leans on her active skills far more heavily to both fight and survive. Defensive items are worth working in reactively once she’s ahead enough to be a priority target for the enemy team.
