Ramattra is one of Overwatch 2’s more distinctive Tank heroes, built around a single defining mechanic: the ability to transform between two very different combat forms mid-fight. Here’s how his kit fits together and how he’s generally played.
Identity and role
Ramattra is a Tank hero whose whole design revolves around flexibility between ranged and melee combat, achieved by switching between his default Omnic form and his transformed Nemesis form. In Omnic form, he plays more like a ranged support-leaning Tank, using a staff-based attack and utility abilities to control space and protect allies from range. In Nemesis form, he transforms into a hulking melee combatant, trading range for durability and close-quarters punch, making him a genuine front-line threat when a fight calls for it. Being able to move between these two identities within a single life is what sets him apart from most other Tanks, who are generally locked into one combat style.
Core abilities
Ramattra’s kit is built to support that dual identity. In Omnic form, he can project a barrier-style shield that blocks incoming damage for himself and nearby allies, useful for holding a chokepoint or protecting a push without needing to fully commit to the frontline. He also has access to ranged utility that punishes grouped-up enemies from a distance, letting him contribute to a fight even while playing more cautiously.
Switching into Nemesis form changes his combat profile significantly - his basic attack becomes a melee strike, he gains additional survivability while transformed, and he can apply a debuff that weakens enemies caught in his area of effect, making them take increased damage from Ramattra and his team. This transformation is generally treated as a burst window: a moment to commit to a fight, apply pressure, and then either finish the engagement or transform back once the opportunity has passed.
His ultimate ability summons a large area-denial effect that pulls in and damages enemies caught within it, functioning as a strong zone-control and team-fight tool when used to punish a grouped enemy team or to force them off an objective.
General strengths and playstyle
Ramattra is commonly considered strong for zone control - his combination of a ranged shield, area-denial utility, and a melee burst window gives him tools to influence space in more than one way, which is valuable on objective-based maps where holding or contesting a specific area matters. His flexibility between forms also makes him relatively adaptable to different team compositions and opposing threats, since a player can lean more on the ranged, protective side of his kit in some fights and the aggressive melee side in others.
That flexibility comes with a learning curve - getting real value out of Ramattra means reading the fight correctly and knowing when to transform, rather than defaulting to one form throughout a match. Players who invest in that timing tend to get significantly more out of his kit than those who treat the two forms interchangeably.
Maps and team fit
Ramattra tends to fit well on maps with distinct chokepoints or objective areas where his shield and area-denial tools can be planted with clear purpose, and where his ultimate has room to catch a grouped enemy team. He pairs naturally with Damage and Support heroes who can capitalize on the pressure his Nemesis form and ultimate create, since his own damage output, while respectable, isn’t usually the primary win condition on its own - his value comes from the space and openings he creates for the rest of his team.
